Daniela CUTAS

Daniela Cutas’ current work focuses on the ethics of close personal relationships, reproduction and parenting, and more broadly on bioethics and research ethics. She has published in these research areas in journals such as Bioethics, Cambridge Quarterly of Health Care Ethics, Human Fertility, Reproductive BioMedicine Online, Journal of Medical Ethics, Health Care Analysis, Science and Engineering Ethics, and Hypatia. She is a co-editor of the collective volume ‘Families – Beyond the Nuclear Ideal’ (2012), and of the forthcoming volume ‘Parental Responsibility in the Context of Neuroscience and Genetics’ (2015).

Previously, she worked at Maastricht University in a project on the ethics of developing human gametes in vitro, at Karolinska Institutet where she taught research ethics, and at the University of Manchester in a project on pitfalls of legal definitions of the concept of research. In Romania, she co-authored in 2005 the ‘Academic ethics: what it is and what it should be. Research and ethics code’ report funded by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (in Romanian, available here); she has published in 2007 the volume ‘GenEtica Reproducerii’; and she occasionally authors brief articles for platforms such as TOTB (here). Daniela Cutas’ personal webpage is here.

Valentin MURESAN

Professor PhD in Moral Philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Bucharest (ROMANIA)

He published papers in moral philosophy (Plato, Aristotle, Kant, Mill, Hare), and in applied ethics (ethics management in organizations, 2009; happiness, duty and ethical decision, 2010). He published several volumes on topics of moral philosophy and general philosophy and is interested on applied ethics (institutionalizing ethics) and of the theoretical ethics.
He translated and edited several works.
He recently developed several ethical decision and ethical training tools, such as online self-training tool, bi-leveled utilitarian method of ethical decision, pluralist method of ethical decision making, and so on. He adapted other methods: matrix ethics, principlist method, the casuistry method etc.
He proposes a procedure for creating codes of ethics, starting from the principlist method and advocates for codes of ethics based on explicit moral principles. For moral acceptability of public policies or some technologies, he proposes the pluralistic method that combines various tests and Delphi method for ethics in an original overall scheme.

(b. 1950) graduated (1975) from the Faculty of Philosophy, specialization Philosophy of Bucharest University, with a thesis on Philosophy and science in C-tin Radulescu Motru works. In 1996, he becomes a PhD of the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University in Iasi with the thesis: Phenomenology and Ontology in Sartre ‘s work youth. He is an Professor and Dean at the Faculty of Political Sciences, Letters and Communication, of Valahia University Targoviste. He is the author of over 60 articles and studies published in journals and in proceedings of international scientific conferences.

Stefan Lorenz SORGNER is director and co-founder of the Beyond Humanism Network, is Fellow at the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies (IEET) and teaches philosophy at the University of Erfurt. He is author and editor of more than 10 books, e.g. “Menschenwürde nach Nietzsche” (WBG 2010). Furthermore, he is in great demand as a speaker in all parts of the world (e.g. TEDx; World Humanities Forum) and a regular contact person of national and international journalists and media representatives. Currently works as Professor Ph.D at the “Stefan cel Mare” University from Suceava, and as a Researcher at the Lumen Research Centre in Humanistic Social Sciences in Iasi (Romania). He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Ethics and Health Policy of “Gr. T. Popa” University from Iasi. He has a BA in Philosophy and another BA in Social Work from “Al. I. Cuza” University, an MA in Probation and Social Reintegration from “Al. I. Cuza” University, and a PhD in Philosophy from the “Al. I. Cuza” University in Ia?i (Romania). His main areas of interest include ethics, bioethics, social work, social philosophy. He authored more than 15 books in Social Work, Philosophy, and Applied Ethics, more than 8 articles in Scientific Journals covered in Thomson Reuters and more than 50 other scientific articles.

(b. 1969) graduated (1996) from the Faculty of Philosophy, specialization Philosophy of “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University , with a thesis on spiritual The Geography of Romanian Spirituality from Origins to Neagoe Basarab. In 2007, he becomes a PhD of the same University in Iasi with the thesis: The Classical Empiricism about the Sources of Knowledge John Locke and David Hume. He is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences, Letters and Communication, of Valahia University Targoviste. He is the author of over 30 articles and studies published in journals and in proceedings of international scientific conferences.

His background in chemistry (graduated in 1976 as head of the class at national level) allows him to switch to cell biology research at the Institute of Cellular Biology and Pathology “Nicolae Simionescu” (1980-1991). Starting with October 1991 he starts a didactical activity at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila”, while simultaneously continues his scientific activity in cell biology and pathology of the cardiovascular system. In 1999 he receives the title of Doctor in medicine in the field of medical biochemistry. Between August 2000 and February 2005 he is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada doing research in the field of cell motility (study of mechanisms depending on integrins and cytoskeleton). Currently he is an Associate Professor in Cell Biology at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila”, and Head of Cell Biology Laboratory at “Victor Babe?” National Institute of Pathology. Starting with 2006 he extends his interest of research toward (bio)ethics, becoming an associate member of the Research Center for Applied Ethics, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Bucharest, where, in 2011, he establishes a group for debates in bioethics.

Contributions: 24 international papers in biomedical field; 8 papers in the field of bioethics and publication ethics (6 international); 21 international and 76 national communications in biomedicine (respectively 10 + 8 oral communications); 7 international and 2 national oral communications in bioethics and research ethics. Details could be found at: http://www.mircea-leabu.ro/
